Older updates describe the app at the time of release. For current controls and instructions, see the how-to guide.
Players closer to scale, and field zoom New
- Saved plays may run differently: players are drawn smaller and line up tighter, closer to scale. Your saved paths don’t change.
- Prefer the old look? Team owners can choose Large icons under Team details → Player icons.
- Zoom in: use + and − in the field’s corner, pinch on a phone, or Ctrl + scroll on a computer. Fit shows the whole field again.
- Starter plays block better: on plays like 36 Power, blockers now go to the defender they’re meant to block. Plays already in your playbook keep their paths.
More formations and ready-made plays
- More ways to start: Power I, Offset I, Split backs, Spread doubles, Wing-T and Beast join the Formation chooser. Draw a new play opens it.
- Ready-made plays: + Add plays → Add starter plays now has plays for each formation, like Wing-T’s buck sweep and waggle: 81 for 11-player tackle, with selected plays adapted for smaller formats.
- Your calls: new starter run plays are named with your team’s hole and back numbers, like “I Right 36 Power”. Plays already in your playbook keep their names and paths.
- Find a play faster: tap Play to search, browse by formation or see small diagrams in Mini view.
Saved plays may run differently; a steadier editor
- Saved plays may run differently: linebackers now drift with the play while they read it, including a quarterback keeping it. Your saved paths don’t change.
- New default depths: a built-in defense now lines up linebackers about 5 yards off the ball and safeties about 10. Plays you’ve saved keep their defense.
- Better starting blocks: newly added starter plays have revised blocking, and Quick → Pull to the hole sends a lineman through one of your holes.
- Easier editing: the field no longer jumps around, you name new plays when you save them (Play actions → Rename for the rest), and saving over a team play offers a new play or your own variation instead.
Import PDF playbooks for your game format
- Flag and smaller tackle teams: PDF import now works for every game format in the app. Each play is adapted to your team’s format and gets that format’s default defense.
- Check before saving: review each play beside the original page, especially if it was drawn for a different number of players.
- Plan for the wait: conversion usually takes about 30 seconds a page, and the import shows an estimate before you start. Keep the page open until it finishes; it warns before you leave with plays still converting or not saved.
Build from a shared program playbook
- Program playbook: program owners keep core plays and game plans in one place (Create program playbook in the Program tab). Coaches copy a play or a whole game plan into their team with Add to my team. It’s for coaches; families see the plays shared with their teams.
- Choose when to update: when the program changes a play, your copy shows “(updated)”. Your copy doesn’t change on its own. Open it to compare, then choose Update my copy or keep yours.
- Find your program: team owners search by name, town or ZIP and ask to join; program owners approve each request.
- See where each team stands: in the Program tab, program owners see how much of each team’s playbook matches the program, and which plays are changed, behind, or the team’s own.
Use your program’s terminology
- Shared terminology: program owners set gap names, hole numbers, play-call words and position labels once, and the program’s teams use them by default. A team can switch to its own.
- Labels by formation: in Terminology, tap a player on a small field to name that spot, so the tailback can be “T” in the I and “R” in Spread. The labels on the field change; your plays don’t.
- Formation, front and coverage sit together above the drawing tools. Save your own, like “Trips Bunch Right”. In a program, ★ marks the ones the program’s owners picked.
- More room for the field: print, copy and delete are under Play actions, and display switches are under Field options, so the field starts higher on the screen. On phones, switching plays with unsaved changes now asks first.
Compare your changes with the original play
- Show original: see the team’s play faintly beneath your changes while editing or exploring your own variation, so you can see what changed.
- Clearer starting positions: the offense lines up just behind the line of scrimmage and the defense just across it. Existing saved plays and defenses have been moved into place automatically.
- Better assignment tools: expanded QB quick setup and improved flat routes for backs make plays easier to build.
- Formation checks now warn about players lined up offside on either team.
Build plays faster with Quick
- Quick assignments: set up blocks, routes, ball actions and defensive assignments without drawing everything from scratch. Use ready-made zones or draw your own.
- A simpler editor: common actions are easier to reach, with timing and fine-tuning under Advanced settings. Draw route is now Draw path.
- Smoother editing: formation warnings no longer shift the field while you drag players.
- Demos for your format: choose your tackle or flag format and explore a matching play.
Bring your teams together in a program
- Programs: connect your age groups so coaches can explore each other’s team playbooks and copy plays into their own. Each team keeps its own playbook.
- Bring your coaches together: invite teams and coordinators, and set coaching titles on your team and in your program.
- International team details: choose your country and enter the home field’s postcode and region when setting up or updating a team outside the US.
Game plans and game-day printing
- Game plans: organize plays in the order you want to teach or call them, and choose which plans players and parents can study.
- Print for the field: turn a play, game plan or playbook into diagrams, wristband cards or a coach’s call sheet. Print them or save them as a PDF.
- Install a few plays at a time: keep team plays hidden from players and parents until you are ready to share them.
- Fixed an iPhone issue with emailed sign-in links and improved the account view on smaller screens.
Trick plays, mirrored plays and saved defenses
- More ways to move the ball: build reverses, flea flickers and halfback passes, with the ball’s path visible before playback.
- Mirror a play: create a copy going the other way without redrawing it.
- Save a defense: reuse a setup across your team’s plays. Editing the saved setup does not change plays that already use it.
- More front-and-coverage choices, plus support and starter plays for 7v7 tackle with blitzing.
Teach gaps and explore pressure
- Gap assignments: give defenders a gap to play and show gap letters and hole numbers on the field. Updated built-in tackle defenses use gap assignments; previously saved defenses stay as they were unless you replace them.
- Your team’s terminology: choose how your team calls gaps and names its holes.
- More QB options: explore moving away from pressure, staying in the pocket or becoming a blocker after giving up the ball.
- Clearer save and discard prompts help protect edits when closing Account & teams.
Follow the play at your pace
- Playback speeds: slow a play down for learning or speed it up to follow the action at a different pace.
- Position speeds: player roles can now affect running speed, helping distinguish backs, receivers and linemen. This is on by default and can be turned off. Your saved assignments stay the same, but plays may run differently.
A cleaner editor on phones
- Simpler navigation: find your teams, account and playbook more easily, with drawing tools above the field.
- Easier ways to start: add starter plays, draw a new play or import a PDF from Add plays.
- More room for the field: improved phone layout and player job cards that stay closed until you open them.
Defenders pursue after a catch
Defenders now pursue the ball carrier after a catch, including those playing zone coverage. Pursuit angles have also been improved. Your saved assignments stay the same, but plays may run differently.
